Sandgerdi (ISSAN)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. A small commercial fishing port. The harbour is well protected on the N side by a mole and breakwater extending about 480m SW from the shore. A 'U' shaped breakwater provides protection for the harbour on the S side.

Sandgerdi is located on the E coast of Iceland, 41km from the port of Reykjavik.

Anchorage off the harbour is possible in offshore winds.

The approach to the harbour is by a narrow channel that has submerged rocks on either side, over which waves break during heavy weather. Sandgerdhi Light stands at the NE corner of the harbour, and a light is exhibited from a 3m high post on the head of each breakwater.
