Stodhvarfjordur (ISSTD)

Stodhvarfjordur is located on the E coast of Iceland.

There are no good anchorages in Stodhvarfjordur, but as the fjord is more easily entered than other fjords in the vicinity, it is used by vessels wishing to take on fresh water as well as those visiting the trading station of Kirkjubol, but local knowledge is necessary. Anchorage is usually obtained in depths of 35-40m, off the trading station, but this anchorage is open SW, from which quarter come the strongest winds in the fjord.

Stodhvarfjordur is entered between Kambanes and Landatangi (64°50.0'N 013° 50.0'W), 1nm N, and extends 4.5nm WNW. There are several dangers off either entrance point, but within the entrance the shores of the fjord are clear and the depths decrease regularly from approx 55m at the entrance to the shore at its head. The entrance should be approached with Landaholl Light bearing 278°, when Lond farm, 0.3nm NW of Landatangi, will be seen well clear N of Landaholl.
