Berthing facilities are available for loading and discharging containers, bulk cargo and oil for vessels up to 5,000GT.

Vestmannaeyjar is situated approx 16nm SW from the coast of Iceland on a small group of islands.

LOA 160m, Draught 7.5m, 5,000DWT.

Available approx 0.5nm N of the entrance to the harbour and on the N side of the island, depths 28-34m with good holding ground.

Depth at the harbour entrance, between the breakwaters and in approaches to the quays is 5.0-6.0m.

A submarine water pipe and submarine electrical cable (30,000V) lie from the harbour to the NE.

Range 2.7m (springs), 2.0m (neaps). On the rising tide the tidal stream N of the islands sets NW, but S of them it sets W or WSW. On the falling tide, the stream sets E by S or ESE. Both tidal streams are of equal strength and run for equal periods. In the offing the W-going tidal stream turns from 30 minutes to 1 hour before HW at Heimaey. Close inshore on the N side of Heimaey and among the group of islets off its NW extremity, no tidal stream is usually felt and along the SE coast of Heimaey there is either no tidal stream or a SW set. Between the islands NE and SW of Heimaey, however, the tidal streams are very strong.
