Akureyri (ISAKU)

Akureyri is the most important trading and commercial centre in the N of Iceland. The port handles general cargo, dry bulk, container, passenger, cruise and liquid cargo.

Akureyri is located in the N of Iceland and has a natural, well protected harbour formed by the Oddeyri Peninsula and the end of Eyjafjordur.

LOA 350m, draught 10.0m, beam 38m, 11,811DWT.

Pollurinn anchorage (65°40.2'N 018°04.1'W) for large a small vessels, passenger ship tenders may be used from this anchorage to tender dock, 0.3nm. Turning basin of 1,000m, water depth 25.0m LW.

At night, having passed Hrisey, a white sector of Hrisey Light, between the bearings of 325° and 332°, may be kept astern until in white sector of Svalbardhseyri Light between the bearings of 161° and 170°, which leads from abreast Hjalteyri to within approx 2nm of Svalbardhseyri. The entrance to the harbour (Pollurinn) has a width of 800m and a depth of 47m.

Compulsory for vessels of LOA 100m and above, available by arrangement with harbour master or senior pilot. Harbour pilot boards 2nm N of Oddeyri (65° 43.0'N 018°06.0'W). Pilot monitors VHF Ch 12 and available daytime only.

Port limits extend to 2nm N of the port.

Oddeyri Light: Yellow metal framework tower, 12m in height (65°41.0'N 018° 04.0'W), stands on the SE extremity of Oddeyri. Other conspicuous objects in the town are the cathedral, with twin towers, 0.6nm SW of the light; a school with a red roof lies close S of the cathedral.

Use of ship's bow thrusters is allowed at arrival/departure, in consultation with the pilot. Painting of ship's hull is allowed from pier/paint raft Window washing is allowed without environmentally friendly soap. No limitation on discharging gray (sink) water

Range 1.0-1.5m.

Two tugs are available, one with a bollard pull of 42t and one with a bollard pull of 13t.
