Cirebon (IDCBN)

Cirebon is mainly engaged in the inter-island trade. The principal exports are sugar, tapioca, nut fruit, rice, groundnut oil, sisal fibre and copra. The principal imports are phosphate, tobacco, dried fish, machinery, textiles, cement, iron and flour. Other than that passengers, Ro-Ro, liquid and LPG activities also involved at the port.

Cirebon is located on the northern coast of Java facing the Java Sea.

Tankers: LOA 150m, draught 6.0m

Approx 300 vessels and 1,200,000t of cargo handled annually.

Anchorage may be obtained in Cirebon in depths of between 6.0-7.0m, soft mud, 1.25nm ENE of the harbour entrance. The berth recommended is with Cirebon (Cheribon Peak) bearing 224° and Bukit Jati bearing 298°. Deep draught vessels anchor further out in the vicinity of the mooring buoy. Weather conditions, particularly from Dec-Feb, may render discharge into lighters unsafe. Designated anchorage areas are used for various categories of vessels.

The greatest depth within the roadstead is 11.2m in a position 5nm E of the harbour entrance at the E limit of the anchorage area. The harbour, comprising two triangular shaped basins, suitable only for small vessels, is entered between two moles projecting in a NE direction from the coast. The inner basin is known as No 1 Basin and the outer as No 2 Basin. The entrance channel, to a position abreast the root of the N breakwater, including the No 2 Basin, has been dredged, over a width of 70m, to approx 7.0m with a least depth of 6.6m close W of the Fairway Lightbuoy. Entrance to No 1 Basin, which is open throughout 24 hours with movements controlled from the signal station, is limited to a max draught of 4.0m.

Pilotage is available and requests for pilotage should be made through local agents or Port Administrator as soon as possible or at least 24 hours in advance of arrival. A light is exhibited from a metal framework structure, painted white situated near the root of the E harbour mole, 300m NW of two prominent aluminium coloured tanks close together on the coast 2nm NNW of Tanjung Jaga, and close S of the S harbour basin. Lights are exhibited from white metal towers situated at the head of both the E and W mole. Leading lights in line bearing 258° are exhibited: Front light, from a position 400m W of the head of the W mole; Rear light, 600m WSW of the front light. These lights in line lead into the harbour between the heads of the moles. A lightbuoy is moored 3nm SE of the harbour entrance, near the SW corner of Anchorage "A"; a submarine pipeline is laid WSW to the shore from the position of a red buoy, moored 400m WSW of the lightbuoy.

The roadstead and outer harbour is accessible to ships of 7.0m max draught. Greatest depth within roadstead limits is 10.0m. Entering inner harbour is allowed from 0600-1800hrs, permission to enter is required 1800-0600hrs local time. Tankers of 300DWT only are allowed to berth at special oil jetty.

Prevailing winds: SW'ly and NE'ly monsoons. During the SE monsoon a very dry wind from S to SW, named locally "Angin Kumbang", usually sets in between 1900-2100hrs, and continues strongly till sunrise, when it decreases in force and dies away entirely between 0900-1000hrs. Two hours later a NE to N wind sets in, usually weak, but occasionally increasing to a stiff breeze in the afternoon; when the latter is the case it usually shifts to E. There is often a swell from an ENE or E direction in Teluk Cirebon, usually increasing towards evening and diminishing in the morning. Frequently during the NW monsoon thick white clouds gather in the forenoon on the slopes of Gunung Tjareme and Gunung Slamet; in the afternoon these clouds pack together in a heavy, dark sky, and about sunset discharge heavy rain, with squalls from W and SW. Sometimes the weather then remains squally throughout the night; at other times, after a heavy shower, it is calm for a considerable time, with a light breeze from SW to W. In the latter part of the night the wind may then blow hard again from NW, generally shifting towards morning to WNW, increasing in force in the forenoon or afternoon and shifting again to NW. These strong NW winds continue for days together in February, and are mostly coupled with dry weather but occasionally with showers.
