Baubau (IDBUW)

Bau-Bau port is a small port with passengers, Ro-Ro, container, general cargo and liquid cargo activities located on Buton Island.

Tropical.

Bau-Bau is located on the SW side of Buton Island in Sulawesi Tenggara Province.

Max draught 12m, LOA 200m and 35,000DWT.

Anchorage may be obtained, even with W winds, E of the entrance to Kali Bau-Bau.

A light is exhibited, at an elevation of 12m, from a white beacon on the pierhead, but it is obscured when bearing less than 091°.

Tidal streams: Owing to the variable nature of the tidal streams precautions should be taken to prevent vessels swinging against each other. In the outer part of the roadstead the tidal streams set in the direction of the strait, but close inshore there is an eddy setting almost parallel with the shore, and between these there is an area of irregular tidal streams.

Radio: It is recommended to use Jakarta Radio for passing messages at long range, callsign "PKX". Working hours are 0001-0400hrs UTC on 8542kHz and 0001-1200hrs UTC on 8752kHz. Inmarsat communication is possible.
