Gaeta has facilities for both liquid and dry cargoes in the port area and offshore.

Gaeta is situated on the W coast of Italy in the Gulf of Gaeta.

LOA 228.59m, beam 38m, draught 14.6m, 75,111DWT.

Approx 1,800,000t of cargo, 4,000 passengers handled annually.

Anchoring and fishing are also prohibited within a circular area, radius 0.5nm, 1nm NE of Punta dell Stendardo. Removal of a tanker mooring has created a number of obstructions in this area. Submarine pipeline: A disused oil pipeline extends WNW from the circular prohibited anchorage within the roadstead to a position 0.15nm N of Nuova Banchina Commerciale.

Rada di Gaeta is approached from the SE through Golfo di Gaeta. Gaeta-Porto Salvo is approached from the roadstead E and SE of the harbour.

Pilotage is compulsory for vessels over 500GT and available throughout 24 hours. Vessels should contact the pilot 1 hour in advance. The pilot boards 2nm ENE of Punta dello Stendardo.

Monte Orlando (round tower, 14m in height) 41°12.4'N 013°34.7'E. Molo Sant Antonio Head Light (red metal column on round pedestal, 5m in height) 41°13.0'N 013°34.7'E. Porto Salvo Mole Head Light (green column on pedestal, 5m in height) 41°13.2'N 013°34.4'E. Pontile Petroli Head Light (metal mast, 7m in height) 41°13.3'N 013°34.5'E.

Night time movements subject to good weather. Entry to an area enclosing Pontile Petroli (41°13.3'N 013°34.3'E) is restricted to vessels using or providing services to the berth.

Range 0.3m. Winds from S appear to cause a S-going current along the W shore of Rada di Gaeta, whilst with NW winds the current becomes N-going.

Two tugs are available, one with 1,900hp and the other one with 2,300hp. Additional 4,000hp tugs are available from Naples with 24 hours advance notice.

Prevailing winds: W'ly in summer; E'ly in winter.
