Giardini Naxos (ITGIA)

The port traffic consists mainly of small cruise vessels anchoring in the roads during the period Mar-Oct.

Summer.

Giardini is situated on the E coast of the island of Sicily. The roads are located between Taormina Cape, in the N and Capo Schiso in the S.

Anchorage is approx 0.5nm WSW of Scoglio Agonia, which lies close S of Capo di Taormina, in depths of 15.0-20.0m, sand and good holding ground. Anchorage can also be obtained in the S part of the bay about 0.4nm N of Capo Schiso, in similar depths.

There is no pilot service available.

Harbour mole light (red column, 8m in elevation) 37°49.6'N 015°16.6'E, exhibited from the head of the mole.

There is a speed limit of 3kts within the harbour. Vessels may not stop at the port entrance or alongside the wreck. Berthing to the mole is only permitted to allow the disembarking of persons via the two sets of landing steps.

The roads are not sheltered with winds from the E and SE, which are very rare during the summer. In bad weather, a berth can be arranged in the nearby port of Messina, approx 25nm distant.

Officials board vessel in roads, immediately after anchorage. Duty free shops and casinos are to remain closed whilst a vessel is in port.
