Tin Can Island is situated W of Apapa, near Lagos. 7km due to W of the city centre of Lagos across Lagos Harbour.

Approx 15,500,000t of cargo, 6500,000TEU and 1,000 vessels handled annually.

The Pool (06°25.4'N 003°24.3'E) is the principal anchorage with vessels of max draught 8.2m being accommodated.

Tin Can Island is approached through a buoyed channel which leads WNW, passing N of Meridian Point (06°25.8'N 003°23.9'E), to the berths on the S side of Apapa and to Tin Can Island berths, 2nm W, through Badagri Creek.
