Warri (NGWAR)

The major exports are crude oil, LPG, clean products, dirty products, and steel, the main imports being food products, machinery, dry bulk and general cargo.

Warri is situated on the Warri River, 126km from the Bight of Benin.

There are anchorages at Escravos Lighthouse, Warri Point and Bennett Island.

Vessels proceed from Escravos Bar through 68nm of river and creek, passing from Escravos river through Chanomi Creek to the Warri River. The entrance is marked by a Fairway Buoy which, in common with the channel marking buoys, is often out of position. The main access channel to the ports in the complex has a depth between 6.4-7.0m at HW.

Pilotage from the bar to Bennett Island is voluntary, but vessels are advised to engage pilotage services. Pilots board near the breakwater at buoy No 5. From Bennett Island onwards, pilotage is compulsory. The pilot would normally remain onboard for the round trip.
