Samcheon Po (KRSCP)

This is a large harbour the limits of which extend N and E of Shinsu Do. During the fishing season large numbers of fishing boats use the harbour, the oldest part of which is a basin protected by a breakwater situated close NW of No Mal, a point 0.75nm N of Shinsu Do. The port handles bulk cargoes such as crystal, kaolin, coal.

Samcheon Po is at the southern end of the Korean peninsula.

Max LOA 292m, draught 15.5m, 40m Beam, 100,000DWT.

Samcheon Po Myoji, between Changdung Mal and No Mal, 0.75nm WNW, affords good anchorage. The best position to anchor is with the S extremity of Hang Do in line with a 24m high hill (standing 0.2nm N of the S extremity of No Mal) bearing 318°, in a depth of 9.0m, sand and mud. Designated anchorages No 1, 2 and 3 are situated relative to Hang Do Light, 0.25nm SE, 0.6nm S and 0.65nm SW, respectively. Quarantine anchorage: 34°52.0'N 128°05.4'E, is 0.5nm S of the deep water channel.

Leading light beacons (34°54.5'N 128°06.4'E) which are black square metal framework towers, 25m and 33m in height, respectively, are situated 0.2nm apart at the NW end of the deep water wharf. They are in line bearing 025.5° and lead from seaward through the buoyed fairway approach SE of Shinsu Do. Lightbuoys, numbered from seaward, mark the approach fairway, from seaward to Samcheon Po.

The harbour limits extend N and E of Shinsu Do.

Coal Pier Light (34°54.2'N 128°06.6'E) is exhibited from a square metal tower, 4.0m in height, standing at the SE end of the deep water wharf. Samcheon Po Breakwater Light (34°55.3'N 128°04.3'E) is exhibited from a round red concrete tower, 10m in height, standing on the breakwater head. Hang Do Light is exhibited from a white round concrete tower, 9.0m in height, on an island of the same name.
