Sokcho (KRSHO)

The port consists of a new outer basin protected by breakwaters for commercial trade and an inner basin which is a lake formed by the mouth of a stream. The two basins are linked by a narrow channel with depths from 3.0-4.0m. The port handles breakbulk, seafood and passengers.

Sokcho is located on the SW side of Biseon Jang.

LOA 186m, beam 24.8m, 28,258DWT.

Outer anchorage: There is a quarantine anchorage about 1.3nm SE of Cho Do in position 38° 11.42'N 128°37.37'E. There is a quarantine anchorage in the roadstead.

There are 2 breakwaters the S of which extends 0.22nm NE from a position 0.65nm SW of Biseon Jang. The N breakwater extends S from an islet close S of Biseon Jang, leaving an entrance between the breakwaters of 0.15nm. A channel leads on the NW side of the S breakwater to Cheongcho Ho, a lake in which there are depths of 4.0m.

Compulsory and available during day light hours only. Berthing instructions are generally relayed through the agents. Pilot boards 2.3nm SE of Cho Do, (38° 11.42'N 128°37.37'E).

The seaward limit of the harbour is defined by a line drawn from Pison Jang (38° 13.0'N 128°36.0'E), SE for 1nm to Cho Do, then WSW for 0.65nm to the shore.

Sokcho Light is exhibited from a white round tower 10m in height, standing on the summit of Biseon Jang. A light is exhibited from a red tower, 14m in height, on the root of the N breakwater. Another light is exhibited from a white round tower, 10m in height, on the head on the S breakwater.

Vessels of 100t or more are restricted from an area fronting the NE approach to Sokcho Hang. The limits are defined by a line drawn from Pison Jang (38°13.0'N 128°36.0'E), E for 1.1nm, then E for 0.5nm to Cho Do.

Pre-Departure Report: 10 minutes prior to departure 7. Departure Report: Upon departing. Same as Pre-entry Report. Vessels must maintain a continuous listing watch on VHF Ch 16 whilst within the VTS area. Vessels should immediately report any dangers to navigation or safety whilst within the VTS area.
