Samcheog Han is an alternative name for Samchok.

Samcheok is located on the NE coast of the South Korea Peninsula and stands on the N side of the mouth of Osib Chon.

MaxLOA 291.90m, beam 45.0m, draught 11.3m and 182,472DWT.

Outer anchorages: There are three designated anchorage areas outside the harbour as follows (positioned from the head of the E breakwater): Section I (0.2nm N) Section II (0.3nm NE) Quarantine anchorage (0.18nm E) There are depths from 9.0-19.0m in the anchorages, sand and mud. As the anchorages are exposed it is advisable to weigh anchor and proceed out to sea if bad weather is forecast.

The harbour is approached from the E. When a position is reached about 0.3nm SSE of the head of the E breakwater the track leads NW in the white sector (319.2°-320-8°) of Samcheok Hang Directional Light, into the outer basin of the harbour.

Compulsory. Pilots board in position 37°25.5'N 129°13.0'E (No 3 Pilot Station).

The outer limit of the harbour is defined by a line drawn SE from 0.5nm from the vicinity of 27°26.5'N 129°11.6'E, N of the harbour, then S for 4.3nm, and then WSW to the coast.

The breakwater lights as follows: N breakwater: Red round concrete tower, 8.0m in height. S breakwater: White round concrete tower, 10m in height. A directional light is exhibited from a white metal tower on No 1 wharf (37° 26'N 129°11'E) within the harbour.

The VTS Service Zone is contained within a line joining the following positions: 37°41.17'N 129°02.48'E 37°42.33'N 129°09.97'E 37°24.55'N 129°21.35'E 37°22.00'N 129°15.08'E. Compulsory for the following: ..... 1. Passenger vessels 2. Vessels over 300GT 3. All vessels carrying dangerous cargo 4. Towing vessels over LOA 200m 5. Other vessels as designated by the VTS Reporting: Vessels must report on VHF Ch 12 as follows: 1. Pre-entry report: 2-1 hours before arrival, stating: Vessel's name and callsign Destination and ETA Departure port Type of cargo and tonnage Other safety related information 2. Entry Report: When 2nm from port limits 3. Arrival Report: On arrival at berth or anchorage 4. Pre-Movement Report: 10 minutes prior to movement 5. Movement Report: On movement and after movement 6. Pre-Departure Report: 10 minutes prior to departure 7. Departure Report: Upon departing. Same as Pre-entry Report. Vessels must maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 16 whilst within the VTS area. Vessels should immediately report any dangers to navigation or safety whilst within the VTS area.
