Marugame (JPMAR)

The port has been developed on reclaimed land and is an open port. Products handled include logs, plywood, timber and general cargo. There is also a shipyard in the port.

Marugame is situated in Kagawa prefecture, on the island of Shikoku, facing the Inland Sea.

Draught 8.6m, 15,000DWT.

Approx 730,000t of cargo and 10,000 vessels handled annually.

There is no suitable anchorage at Marugame. Vessels ETA should be adjusted to ensure a daylight arrival for berthing in the vicinity of the entrance of Bisan Seto South Traffic Route. Sakaide is often used as a waiting place.

Draught limitation in the channel: Horai East Quay Side is 7.0m. Horai West Quay and Showa-cho Quay Side 8.6m. The entrance to Marugame West Basin is entered 0.3nm ENE of Shimoma Shima. The entrance is marked on the W side by a light exhibited on the head of a short breakwater and on its E side by a lightbuoy (port hand). The approach to the port has previously been dredged to a depth of 13.0m and the basin has a depth of between 5.0m-11.0m. The East Basin, with depths of 7.5m is situated to the N of the town. The channel which has been previously dredged to 7.5m leads to the basin. A light is exhibited on the corner of the reclaimed land.

Not compulsory. Inland Sea pilots are compulsory for vessels over 10,000GT.

The following object may assist during navigation; Marugame Castle (34°17'N 133°48'E). A chimney, (red and white), with an elevation of 102m, standing 0.8nm N of the castle. A tower with an elevation of 150m is situated 1.5nm NNE of the castle.

There are no restrictions on entry or sailing after sunset. However, pilots are not available after sunset.
