Kashiwazaki (JPKWZ)

The port of Kashiwazaki is an import centre for the local area, and an export centre for machinery and electronic goods. The harbour consists of a central basin, leading to a smaller basin which is divided by the Central Wharf, all of which is protected by a breakwater, extending 0.9nm NNE from the shore.

Summer.

Kashiwazaki is situated 5 miles ENE of Yoneyama Saki.

Draught 10m, 15,000DWT.

Approx 106,000t of cargo and 400 vessels handled annually.

Outer anchorage: An area approx 1.25nm WNW of the W Breakwater Light (37° 22.99'N 138°32.56'E) provides anchorage in approx 30m of water. The bottom is sand and mud, good holding. A wave meter in position (37°22.58'N 138°31.09'E), marked by a buoy, is laid on the seabed about 1.25nm WSW of West Breakwater Light. A submarine cable connects it to the shore about 0.8nm SE.

Draught limitation in the channel is 8.3m. Approaches: From a position NW of Yoneyama Seki, the track leads E to a position off W Breakwater Light, then SSW between the breakwaters and into the harbour. Vessels should keep to the left of the channel to avoid shoals.

Not compulsory but recommended. Pilots are available during daylight hours only.

Breakwater Light (red concrete tower, 9.0m in height, 37°22.8'N 138°32.4'E). Prominent Radio Tower (37°21.9'N 138°32.4'E), situated close E of the root Central Wharf.

There are no restrictions on sailing, however pilots are not available after sunset.

Range max 0.5m, min -0.25m.

1 x 600hp, 1x 360hp and 1 x 240hp available. (1,300hp, 2,600hp and 3,000hp tugs can be brought from Niigata if required).
