Patreksfjordur (ISPAT)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The main trade of the port is fishing and fish processing.

Patreksfjordur is located on a fjord of the same name in the SW fjords region.

Appraoch is entered between Blakknes and Talkni, 6nm E. Olafsviti Light is situated 4.5nm ESE of Blakknes. A heavy breaking sea has been reported N and E of Blakknes when a light to moderate N wind is against the tide. This can be avoided by keeping close into the headland, but caution is necessary to avoid uncharted rocks close inshore. Both entrance points of the fjord are steep, and from midway between them the fjord stretches 12nm SE. The general depths in the approach are about 22.0-37m, but, as is the case with several others of the Vestfirdhir, the fjord contains a deep section in which the depths increase to over 55m, which extends from Patreksfjordhur into Talknafjordhur, the next fjord N. The deep is about 1.5nm off Talkni. Tunga is a cove with a broad sandy beach 1.8nm SE of Olafsviti Light. In the approach to the cove the depths decrease regularly from about 20.0m to about 11.0m at the entrance, where the bottom is sand.
