Navlakhi (INNAV)

The port is an all weather lighterage port. Vessels load/unload at anchor to self propelled barges, only two vessels may work at the anchorage at any one time. Coal is the key import product and salt is the only export of Navlakhi port.

Navlakhi is located on the island of Navlakhi Bet at the head of the Gulf of Kutch, on India's W coast approx 180km from the Pakistan border.

The approach to Navlakhi is liable to change; mariners are advised to exercise caution when using radar ranges. The navigational buoys moored in Hansthal Creek are moved as required to conform with the frequent depth changes that occur. These buoys follow the obsolete Uniform System of Buoyage.

Pilotage is compulsary and sailing pilot is not compulsary but it depends purely on Master.

The port limits start at No 5 Buoy in Hansthal Creek.

Navalhi Bet Lighthouse (white framework tower, orange bands, 24m in height) at the NW end of Navlakhi Bet.

Generally, vessels' movements should take place during daylight hours only as night navigation entails a certain element of risk.

Range 6.4 (springs); 4.1m (neaps).

There are 2 tugs of 382hp each for towing lighters.

A customs inspector will board the vessel. Customs allowances: One bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes is allowed for each crew member per week. Immigration: Immigration officials will check passports/CDC (Seaman's Books) and issue shore permits. Nationals from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China (mainland) will not be issued with landing permits.
