The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port consists of an open roadstead protected from SW by Sandy Point, 2nm S of the river mouth, and by a spit extending from the point. Main exports are ground nut kernels, rape seed and grain.

Communications
There is no coastal radio station in the port. Messages should be sent via Bahrain or Singapore Radio.
Customs and Immigration
Customs allowances: One bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes is allowed for each crew member per week. Immigration: Immigration officials will check passports/CDC (Seaman's Books) and issue shore permits. Nationals from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China (mainland) will not be issued with landing permits.

Local port health officer grants pratique after boarding vessel.
Notices of readiness
To be tendered as per terms and conditions of Charter Party. Generally, NOR tendered by master on vessel's arrival advising that vessel is ready to load/discharge the nominated cargo.
