Calicut (INCCJ)

The port is an anchorage port which mainly handles petroleum products in barrels, cement and other building materials, food grains, edible oil, coir, timber and machinery. The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen.

Calicut, also known as Kozhikode, is situated on the coast of Kerala in SW India. It stands on the N bank of the Kallayi River near its mouth.

Any size vessel can anchor.

Vessels anchor with Calicut Lighthouse (11°15.5'N 075°46.2'E) bearing approx SSE in 9.0m of water. Anchorage may also be obtained with Calicut Lighthouse bearing 078° at a suitable distance off according to vessel's draught; vessels should not anchor S of this bearing as the bottom is foul and rocky. A lightbuoy off the W side of Anchorage Reef marks the S and E limits of the anchorage for vessels of moderate size.

Storm signals are displayed from the signal station, the general system is used. Signal Station (11°15.7'N 075°46.1'E) stands close N of Calicut Light.

..... North A line running due W from the boundary pillar erected S of Elathur point in position, 11°19.3'N 075°44.6'E, depth 16.0m. South A line drawn due W from the boundary pillar, 400m S of the mouth of River Kadalundi in position, 11°07.4'N 075°49.6'E, depth 16m. West A line joining the eastern most point of the above E W lines. East The sea shore between the above Northern and Southern limit as within 45m of the HW mark in spring tide and including the harbour and back waters up to 5km up stream from the river mouth of Chaliyar.

Calicut Light is exhibited from a white masonry tower standing near the port office at the N end of the town.

The average maximum and minimum tidal ranges are about 1.0m and 0.4m.

There are 3 tugs available with capacities of 132hp, 200hp and 300hp. These may be obtained on request.

Local port health officer grants pratique after boarding vessel. If a vessel is coming from a yellow fever area within 30 days, port health officer, Cochin will issue free pratique. Bill of Health by health officer, Calicut.

To be tendered as per terms and conditions of Charter Party. Generally, NOR tendered by master on vessel's arrival advising that vessel is ready to load/discharge the nominated cargo.
