Middelfart (DKMID)

The port is operated by Associated Danish Ports A/S (ADP) and consists of two quays that handle a variety of cargoes.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Middelfart is situated on the S side of Snaevringen abreast Lyngs Odde.

LOA 100m, draught 5.3m

Approx 150 vessels visit the port annually.

Good anchorage is available in the roadstead off the port.

Old harbour: If approaching from W, the track leads close to the shore bank, marked by a buoy (E cardinal) about 180m W of the entrance, so that the inner side of the mole is visible. If approaching from N against a N going current, the track should follow a wide sweep to approach the harbour entrance from W. New harbour: Should also be approached from W.

Pilotage is not compulsory, but is advised for vessels without local knowledge. Pilots are available at the port and may be contacted by VHF. Pilots can be arranged through DanPilot.

Tidal range is about 0.3m. Gales from E to NE may raise the water level by up to 1.5m and gales from W to SW may lower it by as much as 1.2m.

Lyngby Radio (the only coast radio station in Denmark) is recommended for passing messages. The station works throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Pilot station: Ch 16, 12. Tel: +45 64 41 11 09, throughout 24 hours. Harbour authorities: Ch 16.

Customs allowances: One bottle of spirits and 200 cigarettes per person are allowed. If quantities in excess of the allowance are found the penalty is a fine. The size of the fine depends on the amounts in excess of allowances. Clearance is handled by the agent but Customs Officers may board at any time to check the validity of the documents handed to the agent. Immigration: There are no restrictions for crew. Passengers of nationalities which require a visa are only allowed transit in Denmark for 36 hours.

There is no demand for an ETA by Port Authorities. ETA messages should be passed to the ship's agent who will relay it to relevant parties (port, stevedores, work gangs, etc). Pilot requires ETA at boarding point 24, 12 and 4 hours prior to arrival.

Pratique is not required for Danish ports. Agent may request a Maritime Declaration of Health from the Master. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificates can be renewed in large ports.
