Faaborg (DKFAA)

This port, consisting of three basins, a ferry harbour and yacht harbour, is not large but it is well equipped and able to handle most dry cargoes, ferries and midsized cruise ships.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Faaborg is located on the island of Fyn approx 15nm WNW of Svendborg.

Max draught 5m.

Dyreborg Vig (55°04.2'N 010°13.3'E) affords anchorage with good holding ground in depths from 6 to 8m. Large vessels can anchor close within the W entrance channel of Faaborg Fjord, in depths of 6-11m, care being taken to avoid the shoal patches. Small vessels lie best from 0.15nm SW of the entrance to Faaborg Havn, in a depth of approx 5m, with Faaborg Church in line with Faaborg Belfry, and Svanninge Church open W of the town of Faaborg. Submarine cable: A submarine power cable exists between Bjorno and Sisserodde; there is also an extensive cable area across Faborg Fjord between Bjorno and Fyn.

Faaborg is approached from the Lillebaelt (Little Belt) fairway which connects Kattegat with the Baltic Sea. Passage is made either N or S of Lyo Island then NE of Lillegrund into Faaborg Fjord.

Pilotage compulsory according to draught and tonnage. Pilots are available from DanPilot, Spodsbjerg and can board vessels in the passage S of Lyo off Skrams Flak (55°01.0'N 010°12.0'E) and board 55°01.7'N 070°11.2'E (Skrams Flak). Long distance pilotage is available for Little Belt. Pilotage is compulsory for the following: ..... 1. Laden tankers over 1,500DWT 2. Laden chemical tankers carrying cargoes covered by the IMO Code of Chemicals 3. Gas tankers unless constructed solely to carry CO2 4. Vessels with radioactive cargoes 5. Vessels under tow of 150GT and over, that are being towed in dredged or marked channels leading to a harbour or passing a pilot station 6. Tankers not gas free and do not have an inert gas unit.

Bjorno Light (white hut, red band, 3m in height) (55°03.0'N 010°16.0'E). Faborg Havn Leading Lights: Front light (red triangle, point up, on grey post, 4m in height) (55°05.6'N 010°14.3'E), at the head of the E mole; Rear light (red triangle, point down, on framework tower, 13m in height) (189m farther N), in the NW corner of the outer harbour. Osterhede Leading Lights (55°05.2'N 010° 15.6'E). Faaborg Church (55°06.0'N 010°15.0'E), belfry and chimney.

Controlling depth: The depth is 5.0m for the NW Basin and 4.2m for Outer and Inner Basins. Max speed in approach is 3kts.

Nil. However, winds from N can raise the water level by up to 1.0m; winds from the SW can lower it by the same amount.

Prevailing winds: SW/W'ly.

Customs allowances: One bottle of spirits and 200 cigarettes per person are allowed. If quantities in excess of the allowance are found the penalty is a fine. The size of the fine depends on the amounts in excess of allowances. Clearance is handled by the agent but Customs Officers may board at any time to check the validity of the documents handed to the agent. Immigration: There are no restrictions for crew. Passengers of nationalities which require a visa are only allowed transit in Denmark for 36 hours.

There is no demand for an ETA by Port Authorities. ETA messages should be passed to the ship's agent who will relay it to relevant parties (port, stevedores, work gangs, etc). Pilot requires ETA at boarding point 24, 12 and 4 hours prior to arrival.

Pratique is not required for Danish ports. Agent may request a Maritime Declaration of Health from the Master. Ship Sanitation Control Certificates and Exemption Certificates can be renewed in large ports.
