The ports handle bulk and liquid facilities.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Ensted is situated on the E coast of Jylland (Jutland) in the Aabenraa Fjord.

LOA 350m, draught 17m, beam 48m, 180,201DWT.

Approx 1,942,000t of cargo and 340 vessels handled annually.

Safe anchorage is available in Aabenraa Fjord. There is a deep water anchorage for large vessels 2nm ENE of Knudshoved.

A dredged approach channel, leads from Aabenraa Fjord to the harbour. From a position approx 0.7nm SW of Skaerrev (55°03.0'N 009°30.0'E) the track leads WSW on the alignment of leading lights for approx 2nm to the harbour.

Compulsory for tankers over 1,500GT, carrying oil, gas, or dangerous chemicals. Compulsory to and from Enstedvaerket. Pilots board approx 2nm E of the harbour or for large vessels at position 55°07.5'N 009°46.0'E, 3.3nm NE of Nordborg Light, and will advise whether to anchor if necessary.

Leading lights (55°01.4'N 009°25.8'E): Leading lights for the dredged channel to Ensted are exhibited from framework towers with red triangular daymarks. The rear light structure, 16.5m in height is situated 0.5nm WSW of the W end of the coal quay and the front light structure, 10m in height, 300m ENE. These lights are in line bearing 249°. Leading lights for the approach to the W quay and pier are exhibited with red triangular daymarks, the rear at an elevation of 10m from a building and the front at an elevation of 9m from a framework tower, both are situated at the S end of the W quay. These lights are in line bearing 154.25°. The N and S limits of the dredged harbour area are indicated by 2 pairs of beacons in line consisting of framework towers with white "X" daymarks, situated in the vicinity of the approach channel leading lights. In line these structures bear 242.5° and 260° respectively.

Max 17m draught is allowed for the passage between the Skaw and Ensted. For vessels with a draught above 13m, special rules for navigation by the Danish Ministry of Commerce apply. Special Port Regulations: ..... 1. Mooring arrival/sailing alongside berth (vessels above 50,000DWT): Engine (propeller) is only to be used within a distance of 40m from the quay, in special situations (in extreme cases where there can be danger for the vessel, crew or collision with the quay constructions). 2. By shifting of ships (above 50,000DWT): Shifting of vessels alongside must be undertaken taking the quay construction into consideration. Start and stopping of vessel is not allowed using hawsers at the Deep Sea Coal Berth or the Oil Pier, but only by spring hawsers to the permanent bollards on the quay. 3. Max ballast intake during discharge. 4. Trimming, according to Charter Party, suitable for grab discharge.

Range 0.4m.

There are no tugs stationed at Ensted, however they are available at short notice.

Prevailing winds: W'ly. Storms from NE can raise water levels by up to 2.0m. Storms from the SW can lower it by 1.3m.

Customs allowances: One bottle of spirits and 200 cigarettes per person are allowed. If quantities in excess of the allowance are found the penalty is a fine. The size of the fine depends on the amounts in excess of allowances. Clearance is handled by the agent but Customs officers may board at any time to check the validity of the documents handed to the agent. Immigration: There are no restrictions for crew. Passengers of nationalities which require a visa are only allowed transit in Denmark for 36 hours.

There is no demand for an ETA by port authorities. ETA messages should be passed to the ship's agent who will relay it to relevant parties (port, stevedores, work gangs, etc). Pilot requires ETA at boarding point 24, 12 and 4 hours prior to arrival.

Pratique is not required for Danish ports. Agent may request a Maritime Declaration of Health from the Master. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificates can be renewed in large ports.
