Guayabal (CUGYB)

Guayabal is a sugar export port. There is a single pier, where the sugar is loaded by onshore grab cranes and/or ship's gear.

Guayabal is located on the S coast of Cuba.

LOA 170m, draught 10.0m.

Anchorage with depths of 10-18m mud and sand, is available 1nm SSW of the entrance to the dredged channel. With a capacity for 40 vessels with lengths up to 170m.

The port of Guayabal is approached from the SW by Canal de Cuatro Reales and then by a route passing SE of Cayo Media Luna, 20°34'N 077°53'W and from the E by Canal Chinchorro.

Pilotage is compulsory.

The alignment (013°) of Leading Lights: Front Light, situated on pier; Rear Light, situated on top of a tall rectangular tank, leading along the entrance channel.

Max depth in the channel 13.7m.

Range 0.45m.

Available and compulsory for vessels greater than 80m LOA, at least 2 tugs will be used for berthing or when departing the berth.

Radio: Customs Coast Radio Station "CLA CU" can be used for passing messages. The station operates throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat is the preferred method of communication and should be used, to contact agents, whenever possible. VHF: Ch 16.

Initial ETA should be sent on departure from last port. If time permits, further ETA's should be sent 10, 7, 5, 3 and 1 day prior to arrival. The messages must include date and time of arrival and expected draughts on arrival.

Free pratique should be requested by radio. Health Certificates can be renewed by phytosanitary organisations.

Normally tendered when a vessel is alongside and ready to work cargo or on arrival at the outer roads of the port if no berth is available.
