Moa (CUMOA)

The port mainly handles nickel and sulphur.

Moa is a small general cargo port situated on the eastern tip of Cuba in the Oriente Province.

Harbour: LOA 170m, draught 9.2m. CBM: LOA 230m, draught 12.0m, 65,000DWT.

Three anchorages are available with positions from Punta Pajaro (20°40.6'N 074° 53.9'W): No 1: 0.87nm ESE. No 2: 0.37nm SE. No 3: 0.25nm SSW. A dangerous wreck lies 0.25nm W of this anchorage.

From a position 1nm ENE of Punta Yaguasey, 20°40.3'N 074°54.5'W, the basin of Puerto de Moa is approached heading SW, by a dredged buoyed channel. Leading Lights: From a position NNE of the seaward entrance to Quebrado de Moa the alignment (209°) of Bajo Grande Leading Lights, (both red square, yellow stripe on white vertical oblong daymarks), Front Light, 20°40.2'N 074°52.9'W, leads through the channel close W of No 1 Lightbuoy (port hand), 0.8nm NE of Front Light. From the position of the lightbuoy the track leads SSW and then WSW between Nos 3 and 4 Lightbuoys into the anchorage area between Bajo Grande and Bajo Yaguasey, 1nm W.

Range 1.0.

Vessels of over 170m LOA will be escorted by at least 1 tug. When mooring at buoys and for berthing manoeuvres for all types of vessels, between 120-170m LOA, at least 2 tugs will be used. For vessels greater than 170m LOA at least 3 tugs will be used.

Initial ETA should be sent on departure from last port. If time permits, further ETA's should be sent 10, 7, 5, 3 and 1 day prior to arrival. The messages must include date and time of arrival and expected draughts on arrival.

Free pratique should be requested by radio. Health Certificates can be renewed by phytosanitary organisations.

Normally tendered when a vessel is alongside and ready to work cargo or on arrival at the outer roads of the port if no berth is available.
