Manzanillo (CUMZO)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. Manzanillo is connected to the sea by two channels. There are no berths at this port, all cargo work is carried out at anchor.

North Atlantic Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Nov 1 to Jul 15, Summer Jul 16 to Oct 31.

Situated in the E shore of Golfo de Guacanayabo.

Canal de Cuatro Reales: LOA 213m, draught 10.2m.

Anchorage areas are centred (with reference to Cayo Cayita). Anchorage No 1: 0.4nm S, depth 8m, soft mud. Accommodates 2 vessels, LOA 180m and draught 7.3m. Well sheltered. Anchorage No 2: 0.4nm NE, depth 9.0m, soft mud. Four vessels, LOA in excess of 180m and draught 8.1m. Anchorage No 3: 0.1nm N, depth 11.0m, soft mud. Two vessels, LOA 170m and draught 10.0m. Quarantine Anchorage: Centred on position 1.5nm NW of Cayo Grande, depth 12.0-17.0m, mud. Exposed to W and NW.

Approach and entry: Manzanillo can be approached from the SW by way of Canal de Madrona and from the NW by way of Canal de Cuatro Reales and Canal Chinchorro. Because of the sharp turns in Canal Madrona the latter route provides a safer route for vessels with a draught of up to 10.7m. Directions for entering the harbour are as follows: From the SW; the port is entered between Cayo Gua and Cayo Perla (2.5nm N). From the N; the port is entered between Punta Yara and the SE extremity of Cayo Cayita (1.75nm W).

Pilotage is compulsory. Pilot station is located at Cabo de la Cruz.

The following navigational aids are available (with reference to Punta Caimanera, 20°20'N 077°09'W): Punta Gua Beacon (red daymark on concrete tower on piles) 6nm WSW. Cayo Perla Light (white metal framework tower on piles with platform) 5nm WNW. Punta Socorrito Light (green square on green concrete tower on pile with platform) 3.5nm WNW. Ensenada Gua Light (yellow x on yellow framework tower on piles) 1.5nm SSW. Punta Caimanera Light (red triangle on red concrete tower on piles with platform). Cayo Cayita Light (green square on green concrete tower on piles with platform) 2.5nm NNE. Punta de Fuera Beacon (red, triangular topmark) 3nm N, stands on the N side of the headland.

Vessel movements are restricted to daylight hours only. Caution: It has been reported that there may be less water than indicated on the charts, also uncharted coral pinnacles may exist.

Range 1.1m.

Available. For vessels mooring at the tanker berth and over 70m in length, at least 2 tugs will be used while berthing and departing.

Radio: Customs Coast Radio Station "CLA CU" can be used for passing messages. The station operates throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat is the preferred method of communication and should be used to contact agents, whenever possible. VHF: Via Havana Radio callsign "CLA" or local Port Control and Pilots on Ch 16.

Initial ETA should be sent on departure from last port. If time permits, further ETA's should be sent 10, 7, 5, 3 and 1 day prior to arrival. The messages must include date and time of arrival and expected draughts on arrival.

Free pratique should be requested by radio. Health Certificates can be renewed by phytosanitary organisations.

Normally tendered on arrival at the outer roads of the port.
