Klawock (USKLW)

There are two privately operated wharves, both of which are for the shipments of timber due to the ports close proximity to the Tongass National Forest.

Klawock is located on the W coast of Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, close to the Canadian border.

Max LOA 184.75m, breadth 32.20m, 42,446DWT and draught 11.20m.

Anchorage may be obtained in a bight at the S end of the harbour in depths of 7.0-9.0m.

Directions for entering harbour: From a position approx 0.25nm WNW from Klawock Harbour Entrance Light No 2 (55°33.5'N 133°06.1'W) the entrance channel leads ESE passing (with positions given from the light): Between Klawock Harbour Entrance Light No 2 and No 1 Beacon (framework tower; port hand) (250m N) standing on the S extremity of a reef extending 0.275nm S of from the S extremity of Peratrovich Island, a large island obstructing the N end of Klawock inlet; then: NNE of No 3 Beacon (steel beam, concrete base; port hand) (150m ESE), standing on the W side of a rocky shoal lying close N of an islet in the middle of the harbour. Vessels proceeding to the small craft pontoons, or the S part of the harbour, pass NNE then close E of Klawock Harbour Entrance Light No 2, then W of No 3 Beacon at a distance of not less than 32m.

Compulsory. Pilots are available throughout 24 hours and board from a tug 1nm NW of Cabras Islands (55°21'N 133°23'W). A VHF listening watch is maintained on the pilot boat from 1 hour before arrival time.

Range 4.26m.

Tugs are available to assist with berthing.

Prevailing winds: SE'ly and SW'ly.

For crew not to be detained onboard, vessels must have either a visaed Crew List or each crew member must have a visa in their passport or Seaman's Book.
