Thorne Bay (USKTB)

Summer.

Thorne Bay is situated 57km E from Klawock Junction on the E coast of Prince of Wales Islands in Alaska.

The bight S of the large island in the entrance to Thorne Bay affords a good anchorage in 25-36m.

Directions: From Clarence Strait the track leads generally SW, passing (with positions given from Thorne Bay Light No 2) (55°41'N 132°27'W): SE of Tolstoi Island (1.25nm NE): Then the channel to the inner bay leads NW, passing: Between Thorne Bay Light No 2 and an islet (0.2nm SW) then: NE of the N extremity of the large island (0.3nm W) that obstructs the entrance. Then the channel, leads SW, passing: SE of a kelp marked shoal area (0.35nm W) extending well across the channel from the NW shore, then: NW of Light No 3 (post, port hand) (0.75nm SW) exhibited at the W extremity of the large island, then: SE of a gently shoaling sandpit (1.5nm SW) extending SW from the N point at the SW end of the channel. Thorne Bay Light S (post, red and white chequered diamond daymark) (1.75nm SW) is exhibited on an islet lying off the SW shore of the inner bay, approx 0.3nm from the SW end of the channel.
