Borgholm (SEBOM)

Borgholm harbour is well sheltered and is protected by two breakwaters. The port handles passengers through private charter cruise vessels as well as small recreational vessels and lighthouse tenders. The port may close in January and February due to ice within the area.

Summer Zone for vessels over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Located on the NW coast of Oland Island.

Max LOA 39m, beam 12.2m, draught 4.8m and 120DWT.

Anchorage may be obtained in favourable conditions, approx 0.8nm outside the harbour and clear of the shoals. Local knowledge is necessary. .

The main entrance channel, authorised for a draught of 4.8m, leads ESE and E. It is marked by buoys and indicated by lighted ranges, (spar; topmark 2 cones bases together) and lies 2nm NNW of Borgholm Castle. The inner part of the harbour is used only by small vessels and local knowledge is necessary. Passenger vessels bound from Kalmar and further S will take the W channel under the Oland Bridge. The bridge has a vertical clearance of 36m vertical and a high of 41.69m.

Pilots may be obtained from Kalamar or Oskarshamn.

Borgholm Light (white lantern; elevation 5.0m) is exhibited from a point 0.5nm WSW of Borgholm Harbour. Borgholm Castle stands on a hill, 0.5 mile S of the harbour, and Solliden Palace, is situated 0.4 mile SW of it. A 27m high silo stands on the N side of the harbour and a prominent radio mast is situated 3.5 miles SE of the town of Borgholm.

The Oland Bridge has a vertical clearance of 36m vertical and a high of 41.69m.

In particularly severe winters the harbour is closed on account of ice during Jan-Feb.
