De Kastri (RUDKA)

Crude oil production from the Sea of Okhotsk, known as Sakalin-1, is pumped via subsea pipeline to De Kastri where it is loaded onto export tankers. There is also a general cargo jetty. Main exports: Timber and petroleum products.

North Pacific Winter Seasonal Zone, Winter Oct 16 to Apr 15, Summer Apr 16 to Oct 15.

De Kastri is located on the W coast of Tataskiy Strait, in the Sea of Japan.

Harbour: LOA 150m, beam 25m, draught 7.11m, 12,932DWT. Offshore: LOA 247.24m, 110,000DWT.

Approx 13,200,000t of cargo and 500 vessels handled annually.

Russian Regulated Areas number 175 and 171 lie 4.25nm ESE and 4.5nm E respetively of De Kastri pier. Quarantine Anchorage: Russian Regulated Area number 174 is the quarantine anchorage and lies 2nm SE of De Kastri pier. Prohibited Anchorage: Anchoring and fishing are prohibited in Russian Regulated Area number 69A, which lies between the tanker berth and the coastline WNW.

Zaliv Chikhacheva (Chikhachyova) is entered between Mys Orlova and Mys Davydova, 4nm N. The port of De Kastri is situated in its W part, on the N side of Bukhta Somon. A platform and tanker berth stand in the N entrance to Zaliv Chikhacheva in position 51°28.8'N 140°52.4'E.

There is a life saving station, which is opened only during the summer, at Mys Orlova. A lifeboat is maintained here.

Pilotage is compulsory and available between 0800 to 2200hrs daily. The pilot boards in Russian Regulated Area number 175.

A submarine pipeline extends 1.3nm SE from shore, 2nm WSW of Mys Davydova.

Fast ice begins to form in early Nov and drift ice appears in mid-Dec when the bay is completely ice-covered. The ice breaks up in early Apr and disappears in May. During or after NE winds the outer bay is covered with a solid sheet of drift-ice. Strong SW'ly winds drive away the ice to the E coast.
