Narvik (NONVK)

The harbour is well sheltered and has good access and manoeuvring conditions for large vessels. It is ice free throughout the year. The port handles general cargo, dry bulk, containers, Ro-Ro and passengers.

Narvik is entered between Framnes Peninsula to the N and Ankenes mainland to the S. Narvikbukta is entered between Batberget and Framnesoden (0.7nm NE), passing clear of the coastal reefs on each side and of the lightbuoys which mark the seaplane operating area.

Prevailing winds: SE'ly during winter. SW'ly during summer. The 'Beisfjord wind' which occasionally blows from the SE can raise a considerable sea in Narvikbukta, otherwise the wind is light.
