Odda (NOODD)

It is a small but busy centre for tourists with considerable traffic by sea through Hardangerfjorden. It is a growing port which is well sheltered and equipped. The port handles general cargo such as chemicals, zinc, aluminium and fluoride, coal, coke, ores, phosphates and limestone.

Odda is situated at S end of Hardangerfjord, approx 8km S of Tyssedal and 156km SE of Bergen.

Vessels of considerable size can obtain anchorage, with good holding ground, clay, between Eitrheimsneset and the head of Sorfjorden, but should anchor in the W part of this basin in order to avoid the submarine cables and an outfall pipeline (positions shown on chart BA 3027). Another outfall pipeline, the seaward end of which is marked by a lightbuoy and which floats at a depth of 20m, extends 250m W from the E shore, 0.75nm SSE of Eitrheimsnes Light. Anchoring is prohibited on the W side of Eitrheimsneset.

The white sector of Eitrheimsnes Light, bearing between 344°-354.5°, astern, leads to the quays on the W side of the river mouth at Odda.

Compulsory. Can be obtained from either Shudefjord, Kopervik or Marsteinen. Norwegian state pilot can be ordered through one of the Norwegian Coastal Administrations; there are three pilot ordering centres, located in Lodingen, Kvitsoy and Horten. Requests should include: ..... 1. Vessel's name. 2. Callsign. 3. Nationality. 4. LOA, beam and GT. 5. Draught. 6. Nature of cargo. 7. Destination. 8. Purpose of call. 9. ETA at pilot boarding area, or ETD from harbour. 10. Whether one or two pilots are required. 11. Vessel's IMO number (if any). 12. Crew and passengers, (Masters name and nationality, size of crew etc). 13. Cargo and bunker fuel (UN number and quality of hazardous or polluting cargo, type and quantity of bunker fuel etc). 14. Details of passage (Last port of call, next port of call etc). 15. Details related to pilotage requests and pilotage exemption certificates (PEC). 16. Agent or Operator (i.e. Norwegian contact). 17. Shipping company (Name and address).

Eitrheimsnes Light exhibited from a white lantern on the E side of Eitrheimenest, a promontory, 1nm from the head of Sorfjorden.

Radio: Any Norwegian Coastal Radio station can be used for passing messages at long range. All coastal radio stations are operated 24 hours a day throughout the year. Inmarsat communication available up to Lat 75°N. VHF: Port Radio on Ch 16 and 12 (open 0900-1600hrs).

Customs: Allowance for crew and officers is that stated on the Personal Effects Declaration. Goods on the declaration are not to be taken ashore. Penalties for non compliance are severe fines. Immigration: Board at first port of call (cruise ships only). They require a Crew List and a Passenger List and will make random passport inspections. All passports should be available for a quick clearance which normally takes 15-20 minutes.

Arrival Notification, in the prescribed format, to the Navy should be made 24 hours before entering Norwegian territorial waters (baseline) also Hazmat notification if dangerous/noxious cargo onboard. See country information. Additional ETA's should be sent 12 and 6 hours prior to arrival to the vessel's agent.

There is no need to apply for pratique. Ship Sanitation Control Certificates (SSCC) can be renewed.

NOR to be tendered in accordance with Charter Party when vessel is ready to start loading/discharging. When berth is not available for loading/discharging NOR to be tendered when anchoring or according to Charter Party.
