πŸ“‹ Port Overview

βœ— ISPSβœ— ECAFree Trade Zone
The port handles mainly containers, dry bulk and liquid bulk facilities. The port of Lekki is being constructed to cater for a substantial increase in container traffic at other Nigerian ports. This problem is particularly bad in nearby Lagos for port access, where there is also severe road traffic congestion causing delays for export and import cargoes. The initial breakwater for Lekki (Phase 1) has been built with longer breakwaters to follow. On land, new roads and access facilities are under construction. Upon completion of the final development phase, the port will be able to handle vessels up of to 8,000TEU and liquid bulk carriers up to 160,000DWT. The China Development Bank is providing funding of up to $US629 million for the construction and operating costs at the port. Several large scale businesses are locating to the area, with new facilities and roads. Dangote are building a major Refinery and Fertiliser Plant to the North of the port area. Their seaward pier, although partially built, is receiving vessels carrying project construction materials and heavy plant.
