Monrovia (LRMLW)

The free port of Monrovia has an artificial harbour protected by 2 breakwaters extending NW and SW from the shore, each approx 2km in length. There are four piers and one main cargo wharf. The principal exports are iron ore, crude rubber, bulk latex, coffee, cocoa, timber and seafood. Imports consist of petroleum products, building materials and general cargo of all types.

Approx 2,000,000t of cargo, 98,000TEU and 400 vessels handled annually.

Anchorage may be obtained in an area S of the approach in depths of approx 16.5-13.7m, good holding ground. Vessels are liable to roll heavily in this anchorage.

The entrance to the harbour lies between the heads of the breakwaters, 1.75nm N of Cape Mesurado. Maintained depth in channel 10.7m, max draught in channel is 9.1m.
