Greenville (LRGRE)

The port consists of a breakwater 400m in length, the E side of which provides 2 berths, depth 6m. Depths in the entrance channel range from 10.1m to 23.8m, and good anchorage can be obtained in the bay in depths between 13.0m and 15.0m. The principal export is forest products.

Greenville is situated SE of Monrovia between Buchanan and Cape Palmas.

Tanker Berth: LOA 62m, draught 4.8m. Largest vessel handled: "Angele N", log carrier, 26,548DWT, draught 7.0m.

Approx 22,300t of cargo handled annually.

Anchorage may be obtained approx 1.0nm W of Blubarra Point, in a depth of approx 13.0-15.0m. The bottom is generally composed of stiff black sand and mud, however there are several foul patches. During the rainy season (Apr-Nov) a heavy swell is liable to occur, forcing vessels to anchor in the bay.

Approach to the anchorage or to the port of Greenville may be made between Kennedy Rocks and Stevens Rock, with the light structure at the head of the jetty bearing approx 059°. A vessel entering the harbour should give the head of the jetty a berth of at least 100m, as depths of less than 5.0m exist within this distance of the jetty head.

Compulsory. The pilot boards 2nm off the breakwater, normally available between 0500-2300hrs, (after 2300hrs by prior arrangement). The pilot boards from a black and white launch.
