Pyeongtaek (KRPTK)

The port mainly provides LNG to the capital city with its 4 Thermal Power Plants and to LNG/LPG gas carriers. Other ship services involve vessels importing iron ore, coastal cargo and carrying steel products from the regional steel plants. The port also handles containers and car carriers.

Pyeong Taek (Dangjin) is located 1.3nm W of Nomi Gak, on the W coast of the Korean peninsula.

LOA 345.33m, draught 18.6m, beam 57m, 299,688DWT.

Approx 115,000,000t of cargo, 790,000TEU and 40,000 passengers handled annually.

There are three anchorages. No 1 Anchorage (37°00.0'N 126°45.0'E), mud and sand, with depths from 14.0-21.0m. This anchorage is for vessels less than 110,000t. No 3 Anchorage (37°05.0'N 126°39.0'E), mud and sand, with depths up to 17.4m. This anchorage is for vessels less than 110,000t. The quarantine anchorage is located 37°09.0'N 036°29.0'E, rock with depths from 19.3-27.5m. Prohibited anchorage: A gas submarine pipeline is laid between Hanjin Gak (36° 58.0'N 126°47.0'E) and Pyeong Taek, 1.75m, N.

The distance from the entrance channel entrance to the berth is about 16nm. The buoyed channel is approached on a bearing of 086.5° from the directional light at Nomi Gak (37°00.0'N 126°47.4'E) or at night within the white sector, buoyage is marked in accordance with IALA Maritime Buoyage System (Region B).

Pilotage is compulsory from No 1 Lightbuoy (37°08.4'N 126°31.6'E) to the port, and is strongly recommended from Chang-anso (37°04.4'N 126°17.6'E) to the port for dangerous cargo carriers of large and very large size. The harbour limits are bounded by the parallels of 37°02.0'N and 36°58.4'N and the meridians of 126°50.1'E and 126°42.2'E.

A directional light is exhibited at an elevation of 52m from a framework tower (white, square), 14m in height, on Nomi Gak. A light is exhibited at an elevation of 8.0m, from a round white tower, 7.0m in height, on the outer end of Asan Myoji Breakwater close E of Nomi Gak.

A bridge (36°56.0'N 126°50.0'E), with a vertical clearance of 45m spans the S end of Asan Man.

At Asan Myoji (37°00'N 126°46'E), the tidal streams set ESE and WNW at a maximum rate of 3.5kts. Throughout the inlet the tidal streams turn at about the times of HW and LW at Inchon.

There is a Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) from 2nm SW of Chang-anso to Pyeong Taek port. Participation in the VTS is compulsory for every foreign vessel, all ocean-going vessels, vessels over 300gt (excluding coastal fishing vessels), vessels carrying dangerous goods and towing vessels engaged in towing or pushing operations (for which appropriate signals must be displayed). Vessels must report on VHF Ch 10 to Pyeong Taek VTS at the following times: ..... 1. Initial Report: when passing 2nm SW of Chang-anso. 2. Arrival Report: when arriving at the berth/waiting anchorage. 3. Shifting Report: when shifting within the VTS Area. 4. Departing Report: on departure from the port or anchorages. Vessels must maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 16 and 10.

Four tugs available, all of 4,400hp.

ETA should be sent 72, 48 and 24 hours prior to arrival. Vessels should send ETA and ship security information through the agent 24 hours in advance. Every inbound vessel should report its approach when 2nm SW of Chang-anso to Pyeong Taek Port Service on VHF Ch 10. Vessels are requested to submit a preliminary notice of entering the Vessel Traffic Service area and ship security 24 hours before arrival. The following information shall be included in the preliminary notice of entering: ..... 1. Vessel's name, callsign, flag, GT, LOA, beam and draught 2. Cargo type and quantity 3. Crew and passengers 4. Berth 5. ETA at pilot station or waiting anchorage 6. ETD At least two hours prior to arrival at Pohang, masters should contact Pohang Port control through VHF Ch 16 for information. At anchorage it is possible to make telephone link calls through the VHF.

Quarantine officers go onboard the vessel at the anchorage. Radio Pratique message is acceptable if a valid Korean Sanitary Certificate is onboard.
