Ube (JPUBJ)

The port is enclosed by two breakwaters and has two entrances. Outside the breakwaters there are two loading quays. Inside there are several other quays, including coal berths. Large quantities of fertiliser and cement are shipped from Ube.

Ube is located on the southern coast of Honshu, close E to the western entrance to the Inland Sea.

Harbour - LOA 235m, beam 43m, 105,752DWT. Offshore - LOA 339.5m, draught 19.9m, 318,218DWT.

Approx 32,000,000t of cargo (including 8,000,000t of coal), 22,000TEU and 14,000 vessels handled annually.

There is anchorage for 4 ships, 2 x 500GT and 2 x 1,000GT; depth from 3.5-7.3m. Quarantine anchorage: A quarantine anchorage lies 1.5nm WNW of the light tower on Motoyamano Su.

Draught limitation in the channel is 11.0m. Depths inside the port are 1.9-3.0m, except in the fairway from the W entrance where depths reach 3.9-5.0m.

Not compulsory but recommended. Inland Sea pilots are available at Sekisaki or Hesaki. Harbour pilots are available at the quarantine anchorage. Pilotage is available daylight hours only.

A light is exhibited at the head of W Breakwater, a short spur on the NW side of the harbour entrance. Another light is exhibited at the head of a breakwater on the NE side of Main Harbour. Leading lights, in line bearing 058°, lead through the channel into the harbour. Ube Airport runway approach lights, extend 0.5nm WSW from a position on the shore close S of the harbour. A fixed white light exhibited on the bridge marks the centre of the main channel leading into W Harbour. Fixed green and red lights mark each side of the channel. Similar bridge lights mark the secondary channel into W Harbour N of the main channel. Fixed yellow bridge lights are displayed each side of the channel marking lights.

Entry or sailing after sunset: No restrictions, but pilots are not available after sunset. A bridge with a vertical clearance of approx 25m spans the entrance to W Harbour.

Radio pratique is applicable only by possessing a valid Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate. It is not necessary to have a Japanese Sanitary Inspection Certificate. Radio pratique message: The message must include: ..... 1. RPM (Radio Pratique Message, to advise that the message is for radio pratique, abbreviated form used) 2. Name of port and departure date 3. Name(s) of port(s) of call and sailing dates during the last 15 days 4. Name of port of destination and ETA 5. Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate, date and place of issue 6. Number of crew and passengers, if any 7. Whether or not there is a doctor onboard 8. Name of the Master of the vessel 9. Whether or not the vessel has transferred any passengers and or goods from another vessel or aircraft on the voyage during 15 days prior to arrival. If affirmative, details should be given. 10. Whether there are any patients onboard, or not, taken ill during 15 days prior to arrival. If yes, details of the illness must be given. 11. Whether there has been any death (with the exception of deaths caused by accident) during the 15 days prior to arrival. If yes, details should be given and must include: Name and age of the person(s) and/or present condition of the person(s). 12. Whether rats were caught and if there was any danger of the outbreak of black plague and if there was abnormal mortality amongst the rats. 13. Whether or not there are any goods onboard tainted by any virus or quarantineable epidemic. When the Master requires radio pratique he should cable the Head of the Quarantine Station via his agent in accordance with Quarantine rules which stipulate that this must be done within 36 hours prior to arrival at the port. Saturday, Sunday and holidays do not count within the 36 hours. Free pratique: Formalities will be carried out at the quarantine anchorage within a radius of 500m centred on position 33°53.25'N 131°13.30'E.
