Noshiro (JPNSR)

Noshiro Port primarily handles the export of timber, reflecting the city's strong dry cargo industry, along with other cargo such as seafood, aggregates and cement. The port supports both domestic and international trade, making it an essential hub for the region’s economy.

Summer.

Noshiro is situated on the NW coast of Honshu facing the Sea of Japan.

LOA 239.98m, beam 43m, draught 14m, 104,939DWT.

Approx 5,000,000t of cargo handled annually.

The fairway to the harbour is 180m in width, with a dredged depth of 15.0m. Draught limitation in the channel for 15,000t Pier only, is 9.5m. The limits of the dredged areas are marked by buoys on which lights are exhibited. Approach and entry: From seaward, the port is entered close S of the head of outer harbour North Breakwater (40°11.9'N 139°58.1'E). From a position on the coastal route W of Mizu Shima, the track leads NE passing: SE of the head of outer harbour North Breakwater (40°11.9'N 139° 58.1'E), then: W of No 5 Lightbuoy (port hand), then W of the head of outer harbour South Breakwater (40°12.1'N 139°58.7'E), from which a light (red tower, 10m in height) is exhibited. The track then leads, as required, to the designated berth.

Pilotage is not compulsory, but recommended. Pilots board at position 40° 11.92'N 139°55.30'E in daylight hours only.

The port limit extends between 1.5 and 2.3nm seaward from points on the shore, 2nm N and 2.5nm S of the harbour.

Yoneshiro Kawa Light (red round concrete tower, 11m in height) (40°12.8'N 139° 59.6'E).

Average range of tide 0.2-0.3m.

There are 3 x 3,200hp tugs available. Tugs are available in Noshiro Ko, and tugs are also available from nearby ports if required.

When strong NW winds blow, vessels should wait or seek shelter off Funakawa.
