Trani (ITTNI)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. A small commercial port with a fishing harbour. Exports include bauxite, alcohol and wrought iron. Imports include timber, flour, coal, textiles, glass and bricks.

Trani is situated in a natural bay 6.5nm ESE of Barletta, on the SE Italian coast.

LOA 60m, draught 4.5m.

May be obtained with good holding ground, in the lee of Braccio di San Nicola, except in winds from E.

The harbour lies in a bay protected by 2 moles and an outer breakwater. The angled breakwater, Braccio di San Nicola, extends about 470m NE and E from the W entrance point to the bay, close NE of the cathedral. The W mole, Molo Santa Lucia, extends 70m SE from a point 0.1nm SSE of the root of the breakwater. The E mole, Molo Sant'Antonio, extends 200m N from the NE side of the town.

Prevailing winds: N'ly. In the winter, semi-circle and may blow strongly for 3 or 4 days. Winds from the NE quadrant render navigation in the entrance difficult and send a substantial sea and swell into the harbour.
