Monopoli (ITMNP)

The Port of Monopoli is a small yet strategically significant harbour primarily used for fishing, commercial and tourism activities. It features a well-sheltered natural inlet, accommodating cargo vessels, yachts and passenger boats. The port plays a key role in local trade, supporting industries like shipbuilding and seafood processing while also serving as a gateway for cruise tourism. Monopoli is situated on the Adriatic coast, S of Bari.

LOA 186m, beam 25.46m, draught 6.5m, 19,954DWT.

Directions for entering harbour: The harbour is entered between the heads of the moles on each of which a light is exhibited: Molo Margherita Light 40°57.3'N 017°18.3'E (8 sided tower, red and white in bands, 15m in height). Diga di Tramontana Light 40°57.4'N 017°18.4'E (green metal framework tower on hut, 10m in height). Caution: There are many buoys at Punta del Trave due to the shoal. During offshore winds, smoke and dust from the cement factory reduce visibility in the approaches to the port.

Compulsory for vessels over 400GT. Pilot boards 1nm from the harbour entrance and available between 0600-2000hrs, on request between 2000-0600hrs.

The port limits extend 1nm from the port.

Entrance allowed during daylight only.

Range 0.2-0.3m.

Prevailing winds: NW-NE, S-SE. Local weather: The harbour is protected by its two moles but in strong winds between S and SE some swell may be experienced. These winds may also make entering the harbour difficult.
