Neskaupstadur (ISNES)

Neskaupstadur is the largest fishing port in the Iceland. The port consists of two harbour, the village harbour pier and the main industrial harbour. The main industrial harbour handles general cargo, Ro-Ro and refrigerated cargo. The port also has tanker facilities operated by Olнudreifing.

Neskaupstadur is located in the N of Nordhfjordhur, approx 0.87nm W of Uxavogstangi on the E coast of Iceland.

LOA 144m, beam 23m, draught 7.6m.

Anchorage may be obtained in the bay off the port, in a depth of 35.0m.

The entrance to the harbour is safe; vessels need only keep to the centre of the fjord when approaching the port. A breakwater at the W end of the fjord protects a quay and a boat harbour; the entrance is marked on each side by a light.

There are no local pilots but available on request by authorized pilots through Seydisfjordur. It is advised to take a pilot for vessels over 100m in length.

Nordhfjordhur Light (grey concrete tower, 8m in height) (65°09.0'N 013°39.0'W) stands on Uxavogstangi. A light is exhibited from a post at each end of the berthing face of the main pier.

Nes Radio at Nordfjordur is recommended to be used for passing messages at long range. Radio station operates throughout 24 hours. International frequency is 2182kHz. Working frequency for Nes Radio: Land 1761kHz, ship 2105kHz. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Ch 16, 12 (calling), Ch 23, 25, 26 or 27 (working).

Customs allowance for master, chief engineer and chief mate is 2 bottles of spirits, 1 carton of cigarettes, 2 cases of beer. For crew the allowance is 1 of each. Penalties for non compliance are a fine and goods are confiscated. Immigration: There are no special immigration procedures and formalities. Customs will grant free pratique to vessels. When disembarking crew/passengers, immigration has to give their permission.
