Ternate (IDTTE)

The port is a commercial port used by local and foreign vessels. Main exports include timber, copra and cloves. Imports include rice ad petroleum product. The port has facilities for general and tanker cargoes.

Ternate is situated SE of Hiri, on Ternate Island, one of the Maluku Islands in the Molucca Sea in eastern Indonesia.

General Cargo: LOA 144m, draught 5.0m (Deeper draught may be permitted by arrangement with Harbour Master), 16,000DWT. Tankers: LOA 120m and 6,000DWT.

Approx 437,766t of cargo, 2,613 vessels and 966,283 passengers handled annually.

Anchorage area: ..... 00°45'N 127°20'E 00°44'N 127°20'E 00°47'N 127°23'E 00°40'N 127°30'E Ternate Roads, the principal anchorage of these islands, lies 2nm NE of Tanjung Kayu Merah (00°46'N 127°22'E), the SE point of the island, off the town of Ternate. Good anchorage may be obtained in depths of approx 65m, 0.3nm E of the pier. Vessels should not anchor closer in as the tides may prove erratic and the coastal reef is difficult to distinguish. From Dec-Apr an inconvenient swell may run in the roadstead.

Ternate is approached from N passing E of the island or from S passing either side of Pulau Tidore. If entering from W of Tidore the harbour is entered from Selat Gamelamo, the strait separating the two islands. Approach from S: When passing E of Pulau Tidore and on clearing Pilongga (00° 43'N 127°28'E) the track leads WNW to the pilot boarding station rounding the N coast of Tidore. When passing W of Pulau Tidore the track leads through Selat Gamelamo passing W and N of Pulau Maitara, a red fringed island, covered with coconut trees situated close W of the N end of the island. The fairway through the strait, which is deep, leads to the pilot station. Approaching from the N: Passage from the N is straightforward when passing E of Pulau Ternate, excepting Pasirlamo (00°53'N 127°27'E) the passage is clear and deep throughout. The channel is approx 3.4nm in length, 1,000m wide with min depth of 27.0m. The port basin has a minimum depth of 14.0mLWS. Caution: When navigating in this area satellite derived positions only give an approximate relationship with CD and corrections need to be applied.

Compulsory. Send ETA at least 6 hours in advance to Pilotage Authority through Ternate Radio Station, callsign "PKE5" or direct to Ternate Pilot Station on VHF Ch 12 (0800-1500hrs LT).

The limits of the roadstead are the meridian of 127°23.38'E and the parallels of 00°47.25'N and 00°46.22'N.

A light is exhibited from a white mast near the root of the pier at Ternate. Tanjung Kayumerah Light (white framework structure, 9.0m in height) standing at Tanjung Kayumerah (00°46'N 127°22'E), the SE extremity of the island. A light (white framework tower) is exhibited at the oil depot at Jambula.

Berthing may only be undertaken during daylight hours only. Unberthing may take place at any time.

Tidal streams set through the roads at a rate of approx 1.5kts. At HW there is a N going stream and at a LW a S going stream. HWS 2.0m, LWS 0.9m.

Should be advised to agent at 10, 3, 2 and 1 day prior to arrival. In addition to date and time of arrival the Master should also advise the estimated draught on arrival.

Free pratique is granted on arrival. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate (SSCC) and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate (SSCEC) can be renewed at the major ports.
