Selat Panjang (IDSPA)

The port is a small commercial port, open to foreign vessels and handles general cargo and passengers operates by Pelindo I.

Tropical.

Selat Panjang is located in the province of Riau on Sumatra, on the S bank of Selat Kungkung.

LOA 77.15m, beam 13.5m, 1,709DWT.

The following position is considered suitable for anchorage; 00°00.56'N 102° 42.36'E.

The port channel is from N to S, between Bengkalis and Rangsang Islands approx 24nm in length, approx 800m wide and has a depth of approx 20.0-25.0LWS. Entering into Kungkung Strait is difficult to navigate due to many shallows and no buoyage. At low water the depths approaching the front of the wharf ranges from 5.0-6.0m.

Pilotage is not compulsory.

Tides: Mixed semi diurnal. MHWS at full moon is 3.0m and 0.1m at neap. LWS is 1.9m under MSL. Tidal streams: On flood tide the current follows Air Hitam Strait and the E coast line of Rangsang Island with a velocity of 2kts, on the ebb tide the direction is opposite with a velocity up to 3kts.

Rainfall: Rainfall is constant throughout the year but is heaviest between Nov and Mar. The driest month is September. Temperatures: The port is located in a tropical climate with a temperature range of 28°-32°C. Visibility: Generally good except in the morning and in bad weather when the range could fall as low as 1.5km.

Radio: It is recommended to use Jakarta Radio for passing messages at long range, callsign "PKX". Working hours are 0001-0400hrs UTC on 8542kHz and 0001-1200hrs UTC on 8752kHz. Inmarsat communication is possible.

Immigration: All crew members must have a valid travel document.

Should be advised to agent at 10, 3, 2 and 1 day prior to arrival. In addition to date and time of arrival the Master should also advise the estimated draught on arrival.

Free pratique is granted on arrival. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate (SSCC) and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate (SSCEC) can be renewed at the major ports.
