Sampit (IDSMQ)

Sampit is a commercial port open to foreign trade, handling bulk, general cargo and passengers.

Sampit is located on the right bank of Mentaya River, 34 nautical miles from the estuary of the river, Kalimantan Province, on the S coast of Borneo.

LOA 113.8m, beam 24.38m, draught 5.6m, 7,299DWT.

Approx 1,700,000t of cargo, 3,000 vessels and 250,000 passengers handled annually.

Anchorage can be found either 100m N or 100m S of the wharf.

The port channel is approx 64km long, 50m wide with a least depth of 4.5m LWS. The port basin has a working area of 6,090,000mІ and a business area of 2,960,000mІ, a max depth of 8.0m and min depth of 6.0m LWS.

Pilotage is compulsory.

Sampit is bounded by lines drawn in a 126° and 056° direction from the N and S boundary marks, which are situated 1.3nm S and 1.2nm N of the flagstaff at the controller's house at Sampit.

Tides vary from 0.5-2.9m. Tidal streams: The outgoing stream is stronger and of longer duration than the ingoing stream. The ingoing stream is appreciable 5nm above Sampit. The following tidal stream signals are displayed from one of the jetties at Sampit. A red flag indicates in going stream. A white flag indicates out going stream. No flag is displayed at slack water.

Waves: From 1.0-2.5m. Current: 2.5-3kts. Temperature: 30°-35°C. Winds: 30-45kts.

Radio: Coastal Radio Station, callsign "PKG2". It is recommended to use Jakarta Radio for passing messages at long range, callsign "PKX". Working hours are 0001-0400hrs UTC on 8542kHz and 0001-1200hrs UTC on 8752kHz. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Pilots & Port: Ch 16, 11, 12, 14, call Sampit Radio. Pilot vessel: Ch 12.

Immigration: All crew members must have a valid travel document.

Should be advised to agent at 10, 3, 2 and 1 days prior to arrival. In addition to date and time of arrival the Master should also advise the estimated draught on arrival.

Free pratique is granted on arrival. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate (SSCC) and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate (SSCEC) can be renewed at the major ports.
