Pulang Pisau (IDPPS)

The port was built specifically for the handling of logs and accommodates timber carriers, which usually load to half capacity and complete loading 6km offshore at the outer bar.

Tropical.

The port of Pulang Pisau is situated in southern Borneo on the W bank of the Kahayan River, 15nm above Pangkuh and approx 65km from the river's mouth.

Log vessels: Draught 4.8m at HW, approx 5,500DWT. Tankers: LOA 90m, 3,000DWT.

Anchorage can be obtained off the port, where logs are handled. Vessels are often part loaded in the river and completed outside the bar, or in Teluk Sebangan, 35nm W.

The port is approx 68nm upstream on the Sungai Kahayan which is marked in places by unlit beacons or the occasional buoy, the river passage does require recent local knowledge. The river inner bar is 4nm within the river entrance and has a least depth of 3.2m over its fairway. Vessels of 5,500DWT having a draught of 4.8m can enter the river at HW.

Radio: There is no local coast radio station. It is recommended to use Jakarta Radio for passing messages at long range, callsign "PKX". Working hours are 0000-0400hrs UTC on 8542kHz and 0000-1200hrs UTC on 8752kHz. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Pilots & Port: Ch 16, 12, 14.

Immigration: All crew members must have a valid travel document.

Should be advised to agent at 10, 3, 2 and 1 day prior to arrival. In addition to date and time of arrival the Master should also advise the estimated draught on arrival.

Free pratique is granted on arrival. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate (SSCC) and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate (SSCEC) can be renewed at the major ports.
