Pantoloan (IDPTL)

The port handles exports for Tawaeli (Towaeli), a large village 1.5nm S. It consists of a roadstead anchorage for ocean going vessels which are worked alongside using lighters or by barges which are loaded at a pier. The port handles cargos, asphalt, passengers and machinery.

Pantoloan is situated on the W coast of the island of Sulawesi on the Makassar Strait.

LOA 161.85m, beam 25.6m, draught 9.5m, 17,429DWT.

The anchorage area is located on the S side of the quay, distant 600m in a depth of 37m, in position 00°43.0'S 119°51.0'E.

Approach and entry is made from Teluk Palu. The 12nm channel has a width of 150m and a depth of 11.0 - 40m, sand and clay bottom. The berth can safely be approached from N or S within Teluk Palu. A lightbuoy (port hand), which marks the edge of the N portion of the coastal reef, is moored 0.2nm W of the jetty; and a lightbuoy (starboard hand) which marks the S portion, is moored 0.3nm SE of the jetty and 300m off the village of Salambawu.

Compulsory. Apply for pilot boat by calling Pantoloan Coast Station on VHF Ch 12 or raising "G" flag. Palu Bay is a suitable anchorage to await pilot boat.

Pantoloan Light (white beacon, 15m in height) is exhibited from a position, on the fringing reef, 0.15nm W of the berth.

The anchorage can accommodate vessels up to LOA 125m, draught 9.5m, 20,000DWT.

Pantoloan Coast Radio Station, callsign "PKM 44", operates throughout 24 hours, frequencies 2182 kHz, 6215 kHz and 8291 kHz. VHF: Ch 16 or 12.

Immigration: All crew members must have a valid travel document. Crews from communist countries are not allowed to disembark whilst in port.

Should be advised to agent at 10, 3, 2 and 1 day prior to arrival. In addition to date and time of arrival the Master should also advise the estimated draught on arrival.

Free pratique is granted on arrival. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate (SSCC) and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate (SSCEC) can be renewed at the major ports.
