Pekanbaru (IDPKU)

Pekanbaru is a commercial port open to foreign trade and consists of 3 terminals; Sungai Siak, Sungai Duku and Perawang. The Sungai Siak Terminal is specifically for vessels below 500DWT. The Sungai Duku Terminal facilitates inter island passenger ferry and oil and gas services. The Perawang Terminal handles bulk cargoes and containers.

Pekanbaru, located in Sungai Siak, Sumatera, approx 120nm inland from the Malacca Strait.

Approx 4,000,000t of cargo handled annually.

The river channel has a length of 96nm, width 60m, depth 4.0m LWS. The port has a basin with an area of 1,920,000mІ, min depths of 6.0m and max of 7.0m.

Compulsory. The pilot station is situated at Siak Sri Indapura, approx 75km downstream.

The roadstead limits of Pekanbaru are 0.3nm on each side of Government Pier.

Vessels up to 90m in length can turn at Pekanbaru.

Tide: Tide characteristics are mixed, semi diurnal. Mean Water Spring at full tide is 2.2m and 0.6m at neap tide. LWS is 1.7m under MSL. Current: From the N, the max velocity of the current is 2.5kts at 2.5 hours before AR and 2kts for 2.5 hours before AT.

There is a tug available under joint management.

Temperature: The temperature ranges between 32°C and 34°C. Visibility: Visibility is generally very good but can be less than 1km during rainfall. Fog: Fog occurs from Aug-Oct but usually disappears when the rain starts in Nov.

Radio: Coastal Radio Station: Pekanbaru Radio; callsign ''PKP-8''. It is recommended to use Jakarta Radio for passing messages at long range, callsign "PKX". Working hours are 0000-0400hrs UTC on 8542kHz and 0000-1200hrs UTC on 8752kHz. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Pilot & Port: Ch 16, 12 & 14.

Immigration: All crew members must have a valid travel document. Crews from communist countries are not allowed to disembark whilst in port.

Should be advised to agent at 10, 3, 2 and 1 day prior to arrival. In addition to date and time of arrival the Master should also advise the estimated draught on arrival.

Free pratique is granted on arrival. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate (SSCC) and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate (SSCEC) can be renewed at the major ports.
