Dabo (IDDAS)

Port is closed for commercial activities. Dabo is a lighterage, non commercial Class A port open to international trade. It consists of a roadstead anchorage and a lighter and coaster jetty handling the island's principal exports of tin and bauxite.

Dabo is the only port of Pulau Singkep and is situated on the E coast of the island, off the coast of Sumatera, S of Singapore.

Approx 200 vessels handled annually.

Anchorage for deep draught vessels may be obtained 2nm offshore. Owing to probable obstructions and the activity of tin dredgers, it is inadvisable to anchor within the 5.0m line. During the rainy season (Nov-Dec) safe anchorage can be found in the E approach to Selat Penuba. Caution: Vessels dredging for tin may be encountered off the port and should be given a wide berth. Buoys marking the securing anchors may lie up to 900m from the dredger. Good anchorage may be obtained 1nm W of Pulau Serang (00°21'S 104°31'E) in a depth of 10.0m, clay and sand, and 0.3nm N of two drying reefs and a rock situated 0.5nm offshore. This anchorage is safe in the rainy season which normally occurs between Oct and Jan.

The safest approach to an anchorage off the pier, or to the pier itself, is from between SE and E passing clear of unmarked sandbanks which lie S and NE of the port. Deep draught vessels should keep at least 2nm offshore. Useful mark: Light (elevation 12m) standing at the head of Dabo pier. The channel leading to the port is 1nm in length, 125m wide and has depths of 2.0-4.0m MLWS. The port basin has an area of 328mІ with a min depth of 6.5m and max of 11.0m.
