Benete (IDBEN)

The port is located on the SW coast of Sumbawa Island on the SE end of the Selat Alas in the lesser Sunda Islands. The port mainly handles copper concentrates processed from the nearby ore mine, coal for the power station, liquid and general cargoes and Ro-Ro.

Benete is situated on the SE side of Teluk Benete, on the SW coast of Sumbawa Island, in the south central portion of the Indonesian archipelago.

LOA 200m, draught 14.0m, 100,000DWT.

Vessels anchor in Teluk Taliwang ( Taliwang Bay ) position Lat.8 o 48’25” S, Long 116 o 47’25”E, 11km N of Benete.

The port is approached though Teluk Benete and entered through a short navigation channel, length 1.5nm, width 617m, min depth 20.0m. Teluk Benete is entered between Tanjung Maloh and Tanjung Benete. The port of Benete lies within the bay. The alignment 127° of the following leading lights leads into the bay: Front light (white triangle point up, on beacon) (08°54.4'S 116°44.8'E). Rear light (white triangle point down, on beacon) (08°54.5'S 116°44.9'E).

Pilotage is not compulsory but is available from the mining company. Pilot boarding position is 08°53.1'S 116°42.5'E.

All vessels calling at Benete Bay are prohibited from dropping anchor inside the bay due to the proximity of live coral reefs.

Surface current: Max speed 0.73 m/s, Average speed 0.1m/s. Direction to NW (300-315°) and to SE (75-150°).

Two tugs available.

Tidal range is 3.1m at HHWS and 0.03m at LLWS. The surface current ranges from 0.1-0.73mps, flowing NW or SE along the Selat Alas. Average wind speed is 1.8mps with max wind speed 10mps in September.
