Cayenne (GFCAY)

The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port is mainly used by fishing vessels.

Cayenne, the capital of French Guiana, is situated on the NW shore of Isla de Cayenne.

Holding anchorage: Vessels bound for Cayenne or Degrad des Cannes and expecting a long wait should anchor off Iles du Salut. Off Cayenne: The usual anchorage is E of the line joining Fort Ceperou Light (04°56.3'N 052°20.3'W) and Le Cheval Blanc Light. It is exposed to swell and the streams are strong, but the holding ground is good. Off Larivot: If swell conditions are too bad off Cayenne, a vessel can anchor N of the pier at Larivot (04°54'N 052°22'W), care being taken to avoid submarine cables laid across the river close upstream of the pier running N and WNW. A bridge crosses the river between Larivot and Macouria, 0.5nm N. There are mooring buoys off the wharf.

Depth on bar 3.96m at LW. The channel is liable to frequent changes and is marked by light buoys which are moved accordingly.

Pilotage is compulsory and is available throughout 24 hours. Vessels should send ETA and draught 48 hours in advance to the pilot station at Degrad des Cannes through the agent and call the pilot vessel 1 hour before arrival. Pilot for Cayenne boards near Lightbuoy "CA" (05°03.1'N 052°18.7'W). Vessels should reach the vicinity of "CA" Lightbuoy at least 2 hours before HW. Le Larivot: Pilotage is compulsory for vessels over LOA 45m or over 1,000mі, and is available throughout 24 hours. Vessels should send request for pilots at least 48 hours in advance, stating draught. Pilot boards near Lightbuoy "DC" (04°57.4'N 052°09.5'W).

Le Cheval Blanc Light (04°55.6'N 052°20.8'W) (white metal framework tower) is exhibited on a rock situated in mid-river SW of Cayenne. A buoy (starboard hand) is moored on the W side of the fairway 0.25nm S of Le Cheval Blanc Light. A dangerous wreck lies close S. A lightbuoy (port hand), moored on the E side of the fairway 0.3nm SSE of Le Cheval Blanc Light, marks Roche Paule with a depth of 0.9m over it.

Mean spring range 2.3m and mean neap range of 1.2m.

VHF: Pilots and Port: Ch 16. Le Larivot: The Navy has a listening service on Ch 16 and 2182kHz (Call: Uniform Yankee (UY)) between 0630hrs and 2200hrs.

ETA should be sent at least 48 hours in advance, stating the vessel's draught, through the agent.

It is forbidden to anchor within 20m of the piers at Le Larivot.
