Nykobing (Falster) is a sub-pot of Guldborgsund.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

LOA 129m, beam 20.0m, draught 5.8m.

Entry to the harbour for merchant vessels is only possible from the N, through the Guldborg Bridge, navigable width 30m, vertical clearance 4m when closed, 2.5m under fixed sections. Nykobing Falster is approximately 8nm from this point along the buoyed channel. The fairway 0.3nm S of the entrance to Nordhavnen, narrows to within 0.05nm or less off the quay, which marks the end of that part of the fairway, depths of over 5.3m. A shoal, depth of 1.4m, lies in mid-channel abreast of the S end of the quay, marked at its N end, 0.45nm S of the entrance to Nordhavnen, by a buoy (red can). A dolphin stands on its shoalest part. The buoyed fairway leading to the S part of Guldborg Sund (small craft marina), depth 2.5m, leads W of this shoal ground.

King Frederik IX Bridge: A road and rail bridge, with a single levered bascule, spans the sound approx 0.5nm S of the entrance to Nordhavnen. The navigable span has a width of 20m with a vertical clearance of 4m, when the bridge is closed. When open the W end of the bascule is raised. The vertical clearance height under the several fixed arches of the bridge is 3.6m.

Guldborg Bridge: The following lights are displayed, vertically disposed, by day and night from a mast on the bridge: ..... 1 red fixed The passage is not clear and cannot be made 2 red flashing The bridge is being opened for passage from the N 2 red fixed A vessel from the N may pass through, a vessel from the S must stop 3 red flashing The bridge is being opened for passage from the S 3 red fixed A vessel from the S may pass through, a vessel from the N must stop. Vessels are not allowed to approach within 0.05nm of the bridge until the appropriate lights change from flashing to fixed. A blue flag shown by day or a violet light at night indicates that a vessel is to be towed through the bridge. Note: If there is a delay in opening the bridge, one fixed red light will be shown, accompanied by a powerful sound signal of one long blast. Vessels must then keep clear until one of the passage clear signals is made.

Lyngby Radio (the only coast radio station in Denmark) is recommended for passing messages. The station works throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Pilot: Ch 16. Customs allowances: One bottle of spirits and 200 cigarettes per person are allowed. If quantities in excess of the allowance are found the penalty is a fine. The size of the fine depends on the amounts in excess of allowances. Clearance is handled by the agent but Customs Officers may board at any time to check the validity of the documents handed to the agent. Immigration: There are no restrictions for crew. Passengers of nationalities which require a visa are only allowed transit in Denmark for 36 hours.

Not required by Port Authorities. ETA messages should be passed to the ship's agent who will relay it to relevant parties (port, stevedores, work gangs, etc). Pilot requires ETA at boarding point 24, 12 and 4 hours prior to arrival.

King Frederik IX Bridge: The bridge is opened without payment from Apr 1 to Sep 30, from 0700-1900hrs, (Jun, Jul and Aug, 2000hrs) and between Oct 1 and Mar 31, from 0800-1600hrs. At other times opening must be requested at least 1 hour before when payment will be required. Vessels of 2t and under and those who can pass the bridge by lowering the mast or funnel cannot request the bridge to be opened. The IALA buoyage system "A" is in operation.

Pratique is not required for Danish ports. Agent may request a Maritime Declaration of Health from the Master. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificates can be renewed in large ports.
